UN ‘withholds’ aid from camp on Sudan border say refugees, ex-UN official

The UN agency justifies its policy on the basis of security concerns and it says it is offering expanded services at another site where it intends to resettle the refugees. Dr. Mukesh Kapila, formerly the top UN aid official in Sudan, accuses UNHCR of ‘conditionalizing’ aid in order to pressure refugees to relocate farther from the border with Sudan. Yida Camp in northern Unity State of South Sudan is only a few kilometers from Sudan’s South Kordofan State, where the Sudan Armed Forces and Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North have been fighting since June 2011. +255787000634 PLEASE USE THIS NUMBER FOR ANY PROBLAME Darfur student remains in detention Khartoum ( 28 Feb .) - The Khartoum University student and president of the Darfur Association of Students, Muhammed Idriss Gedo remains in custody after his arrest on January 1. Gedo was arrested in December last year after participating in a protest to support students from Manasir, displaced by the building of the Merowe Dam. He was released on the same day, and suffered knee injuries in custody. The student was arrested again on January 1 after taking part in a news conference at the University of Khartoum. Gedo boarded a bus which was then surrounded by 17 security personnel carrying rifles. They reportedly beat the conductor, threatened passengers and forcefully abducted the student. He was taken to an unknown destination where he remains today. There are no details about the state of his health, or the charges brought against him. MAN'S BODY FOUND AFTER SECURITY ARREST ZALINGEI

+255787000634 PLEASE USE THIS NUMBER FOR ANY PROBLAME 19 Mar .) - A man's mutilated body was found dumped outside Zalingei yesterday after he was arrested by security authorities. Muhammed Ahmed Hashim was arrested on Friday at Nertiti market and taken by security services to Zalingei, said a relative to Radio Dabanga. Witnesses were surprised to find the body on Sunday dumped at the side of a neighbourhood near the market. They said the body had three stab wounds to the head and neck as well as multiple markings covering the body most likely resulting from torture. Hashim's family were told of the incident and called for authorities to immediately disclose the circumstances of his death. Copyright kamanda msofe
